Sudoku Enjoyer Privacy Policy

The short version: you can play the entire game without an account, without an internet connection, and without telling us anything. We collect anonymous usage counts to understand how the app is used, and you can switch those off in the app.

Playing without an account

Solo play is completely local. Puzzles are generated on your device, your progress and statistics live in a database on your device, and none of it is sent anywhere. If you never sign in and never turn on usage data, the app makes no network requests that identify you.

If you create an account

An account needs an email address, a password and a username. The email and password are handled by Amazon Cognito and are used for signing in and for account recovery. We do not send marketing email. Your username is public: it appears on leaderboards, in multiplayer races and on any puzzle you publish. Your email address is never shown to other players.

With an account, the puzzles you complete for a leaderboard, your solve times and mistake counts, your multiplayer race results and any puzzles you publish are stored on our servers, because those features cannot work otherwise.

Anonymous usage data

To know how many people use the app, which modes and difficulties get played, where people get stuck, and how much server capacity to pay for, the app records a small set of counted events: the app opening, a puzzle being started or finished, a hint being taken, that sort of thing. Each one carries the game mode, the difficulty and coarse buckets such as “solved in under a minute”.

These events are tied to a random identifier for the installation, not to you. They specifically never include:

  • your name, email address, or account identifier
  • the contents of any puzzle, or any move you made
  • anything you typed
  • your location, contacts, photos, or device identifiers

The random installation identifier exists only so that ten events from one device are not counted as ten devices. Deleting and reinstalling the app produces a new one, and there is no way to connect it back to a person. Raw events are deleted automatically after 90 days; only anonymous daily totals are kept beyond that.

Turning usage data off

Open Settings in the app and switch off “Share anonymous usage data”. Nothing further is recorded, and anything still waiting to be sent is deleted from your device rather than uploaded later.

Advertising

There are no ads in Sudoku Enjoyer, and no advertising or tracking software is active in the app. If that ever changes, this page will change first.

Who else sees your data

We do not sell data and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. The app runs on Amazon Web Services, which stores the data on our behalf. That is the only third party involved.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from inside the app at any time, with no need to ask anyone. Open Settings, scroll to Account and choose “Delete account”. The app shows you exactly what will happen and asks you to confirm. It is immediate and cannot be undone.

These are deleted and not recoverable:

  • your sign-in details, meaning the email address and password held by Amazon Cognito. The address becomes free to use for a new account
  • your profile and your username
  • every leaderboard entry you hold, on the overall, seasonal, per mode and per puzzle boards
  • your puzzle star ratings and your unsolvable flags

One thing is deliberately kept: puzzles you published to the community library stay there, with your name removed. They are listed as published by a former player and nothing connects them to you. We keep them because other players may be partway through solving them, with their saved progress attached to the puzzle itself, and deleting a puzzle would break someone else’s game in order to complete your departure. Removing your name achieves the same result for you without that.

Leaderboard entries are treated the other way around, deleted rather than anonymized, because a leaderboard entry only means anything with a name attached. Without one it is not a record, just a row in a ranking.

Deleting your account does not touch the games, statistics and settings on your device, because those were never sent to us. Uninstalling the app removes everything stored locally, including your local statistics and any queued usage events.

Multiplayer races you took part in expire on their own within days and are not kept afterwards.

Children

The game is suitable for all ages, but accounts are not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. A child can play the whole game without an account.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we will update this page and note the date. Account deletion does not need a request, it is in the app, but any other question about privacy can be sent through the support page.
